Rev. Javon Elisea Bracy was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. She is a minister, mental health practitioner, and lupus awareness advocate.
She holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Seminary of the Southwest (Austin, TX); a Master of Divinity from the Iliff School of Theology (Denver, CO); and a B.A. in English from Xavier University of Louisiana (New Orleans, LA).
Javon began her career working with young people at Joseph S. Clark High School via City Year NOLA, Grow Dat Youth Farm, and in various capacities at her alma mater, Xavier University of Louisiana.
While pursuing graduate education, she completed her clinical mental health practicum and internship at Capital Area Counseling. She was a project administrator for two grant-funded initiatives at theological institutions — the Congregational Connections Program at the Iliff School of Theology (Lily Foundation) and the Racial Healing Initiative at Seminary of the Southwest (Moody Foundation). She also did trailblazing virtual work through the Tech Chaplaincy Institute and the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF).
Javon currently serves on the ministerial staff at two churches. At New Hope Baptist Church (Denver), she facilitates ministry group support, digital media, and communications. At Juniper Formation (a virtual UCC congregation), she co-leads the Spiritual Well (mental health), Gathering, and Daily Ripple (devotional app) ministry teams. She was licensed to ministry in 2018 and ordained in 2023.
As a mental health practitioner, Javon has experience working with individuals and facilitating groups, as well as presenting workshops around a variety of topics and concerns. As a counselor in training, she completed her practicum and internship at Capital Area Counseling in Austin, TX. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) in the State of Colorado and is a Mental Health Therapist on staff at Michelle Simmons Counseling Group.
Javon has always strived to support the growth and well-being of people and communities. She has been an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. since her initiation (Gamma Alpha Chapter) in 2011 and is currently a member of the New Orleans Alumnae Chapter. Javon has rendered service to the community through various organizations, including serving on various boards of several nonprofits, alumni associations, and a charter school. Since being diagnosed with lupus in 2016, she has been a supporter of lupus organizations. In 2020, she founded her own awareness and advocacy organization, The Purpletuity Project.
Javon’s motto is “To edify, to glorify, to do all things in love.” Her work is grounded in liberative theologies, Afro-futurist philosophies, and person-centered theories. She hopes to continue to work in and create spaces that combine her heart for ministry and service, as well as her passion for (among other things) mentoring, Black culture, community development, technology, and holistic wellness.
